COINTELPRO-Style Demonizing of Groups of People

A significant aspect of our society
COINTELPRO, (Counter Intelligence Program) was the name for the derailment and smear campaign against activists from 1956–1971. But, of course, the actions continued and only escalated after 911. One of the most easily seen ubiquitous current examples of the continuation is paid trolls to comment on social media posts of people looking beneath propaganda lies.
People who question the false statements of the (CIA) Mockingbird-controlled media are demonized, because viewers have seen authority figures and comedians make fun of them and treat them like monsters. It becomes a requirement to mock certain people in order to be accepted by the cool kids.
Certain groups of people are encouraged to be called awful names, and if you don’t do so, you’re ostracized. If you mock someone outside the approved group to hate, you’re Hitler. If you don’t mock and ostracize the right people, without open-mindedly asking them what they believe and why they believe the way they do, you’re Hitler.
For example, Antifa is an anarcho-communist group who labels capitalists Nazis and Fascists. But when many people hear those terms, they accept the term without questioning the context. They don’t look into what the people are like who are given those labels but immediately hate them for being haters. They start going around proudly repeating the phrase, “Punch a Nazi.” They beat them up and brag about being good inclusive people.
Hysteria as peer bonding
The gullibility and peer-bonding hysteria of the public makes it easy for the CIA, the FBI, etc., to freely use the masses to turn against whomever they want to take down. Learning the CIA’s continuing COINTELPRO-style methods and history can immunize against being taken in and used as a free soldier of oppression.
One of the CIA’s historical methods is orchestrating an artificial situation with a patsy to demonize anyone associated with that person’s supposed behavior, religion or ethnicity.
The masses’ emotions are triggered for knee-jerk reactions against people who question authority rather than listening to their documented facts. Learning about social engineering requires taking a deep breath, overcoming the natural human belief in the first thing one was told by an authority figure using emotions to manipulate beliefs, being willing to avoid being reactionary, and paying attention to facts, using unemotional logic.
So, people use the term “COINTELPRO-style” to refer to squelching the questioning of propaganda that is put out by the Corporatocracy. Many people even use the term COINTELPRO to refer to what’s still going on currently, because in effect, it never stopped.
The government’s system of control of the global economy relies on intimidation of people pointing out the flaws in the disinformation that the media employs to gather popular support for subverting other countries by using subterfuge and sponsored coups.
Political reasons
A government always needs popular support and hatred of the chosen enemy of the moment, which US Intelligence have often instilled by a previous coup, or have trained as rebels, but then turned on, using them as scapegoats to give an excuse for invasion. People who speak about such things are still vulnerable to tracking by the NSA, and if they speak loudly, there are sometimes repercussions, just as in the old days when COINTELPRO was the organizing program.
The Soviet Union indeed committed incredible widespread atrocities, but COINTELPRO went far beyond protecting people from that danger. Back when overt McCarthyism became discouraged, the FBI started to used even more covert tactics undercover, using warrantless surveillance of people engaged in “UnAmerican activities,” infiltrating groups by pretending convincingly to be members, even leaders, making insurgents involved look immoral and extremist, and creating divisiveness, as well as entrapping, gaslighting,and blackmailing.
Informants would bond with people ill equipped to handle the situation, to convince them of their leadership qualities, often even forming romantic bonds, sometimes pathologically close in what is termed “twinning,” setting them up for a fall, and often, to be sacrificed. The informants would fit in with the groups, engender trust and fervor, dedication to the cause, and strong identification with themselves as key figures.
People’s mirror neurons would be strongly engaged and they might lose their boundaries, and even ideas of right and wrong, safe and unsafe, reality and unreality.
Though everyday citizens for peace were targeted, this was not just going after students waving signs; people in power speaking out against the Vietnam War, including Senators, journalists, athletes, Ernest Hemingway, and Albert Einstein were considered insurgents.
People involved in the Civil Rights movement, the American Indian Movement, New Left, The Weathermen, Socialist organizations, the Southern Rights Leadership Conference, Students for a Democratic Society, Cuban Nationalist Movement, Puerto Rico independence activists, Black Panthers, United Ireland, and many others, perhaps the most famous being MLK and Malcolm X. The police naturally cooperated, framing activists, planting evidence.
Hoover, Kennedy and Reagan
J. Edgar Hoover was the director of the FBI at the time, and he charged William C. Sullivan with disrupting the lives of “subversives” questioning the government’s behavior and agitating for equality, freedom, fairness, independent thinking, and transparency, as well as people with Communist leanings. COINTELPRO discredited activists, and even killed them.
Agents escalated protests into violence to make them seem extremist, broke into their homes and offices, beat them up, chased them with cars, got the addicted, threatened to expose personal secrets. They made it hard for activists to find the times and locations their organizations were getting together spread disinformation, enlisted family members, friends, and associates of all kinds to harass them.
I’m sorry to say, Attorney General Bobby Kennedy signed off on it. This kind of tactic wasn’t new, as even FDR had begun such atrocities (though ironically, his wife Eleanore was a target) well before it was officially COINTELPRO, and all presidents have employed this; Regan legally sanctioned it at the same time as restricting the FOIA. Wars on drugs and terrorism created excuses for it, leading to laws such as The Patriot Act.
Fake News
As a perfect example of social engineering (using the term the only way it was meant at the time), the FBI, working with other Intelligence agencies, gave the media faked information, distributed problematic brochures that they pretended were published by the groups they targeted, communicated with people pretending while to be someone else, spread factious rumors among the communities.
They created many organizations that activists flocked to, believing them to be legitimately grass-roots. Anyone no matter how humble, asking for peace was considered seditious. Drugs and dramatic romantic relationships were a common way to sidetrack activists. And certainly, all the information was put in a data base, which has achieved Draconian dimensions today.
Agent saboteurs made bad decisions for the group such as putting the wrong time, date, and map on a flyer, with an image on it of someone goofy looking, and instigating out-of-hand behavior that made the message itself get lost. The messages chosen to promote were side issues that made people believe they were fighting for a good cause, but within the messages were false assumptions that only reinforced government myths.
This is seen today with popular comedians that seekers flock to. While making one good point people can get excited about, the comedians stick in other statements that back up the Mockingbird media’s lies, glossing over them as if they are fact.
Ethnicity and Religion
FBI informant Gary Thomas Rowe was involved in a variety of murders of African Americans, and setting up the Freedom Riders. Encyclopedia of Alabama says: “On May 14, 1961, Rowe helped organize the Klan response to the Freedom Riders and led one group of Klansmen in an attack upon a group of Freedom Riders at the Birmingham bus station.
Although Rowe had warned the FBI three weeks earlier that the Klan planned to attack the Freedom Riders, the FBI did not intervene because it claimed it lacked jurisdiction for various reasons, although the Freedom Riders were protected by federal interstate commerce laws.”
The police still work with the FBI to set up not just sting operations to catch dangerous criminals, but to use informants to goad people otherwise incapable of, and often even naturally indisposed to, extreme violence into doing dastardly deeds. While most people might assume they set up sting operations to catch criminals, they often let the crimes run their scams to completion. That looked good for the agents when they “caught” the people afterwards.
In The Terror Factory, Trevor Aaronson goes into this phenomenon. “A groundbreaking work of investigative journalism, The Terror Factory: Inside the FBI’s Manufactured War on Terrorism exposes how the FBI has, under the guise of engaging in counterterrorism since 9/11, built a network of more than 15,000 informants whose primary purpose is to infiltrate Muslim communities to create and facilitate phony terrorist plots so that the Bureau can then claim it is winning the war on terror.” They also set up fall-guys, such as funding the Secret Army Organization to do their dirty work against activists.
People of color were ruthlessly watched, as they tried to progress towards being treated with more respect. “Hoover’s F.B.I. had a twisted idée fixe about African-Americans; it aimed to put spies in every black student union at every college in the country, “without regard for whether there had been disturbances on such campuses,” and had largely achieved that goal.
As Medsger writes, the over-all impression the files gave was that Hoover and many other F.B.I. officials “thought of black Americans as falling into two categories — black people who should be spied on by the F.B.I. and black people who should spy on other black people for the F.B.I.” — Margaret Talbot, The New Yorker
No one was safe, from the most ordinary citizen to the most active. The Attorney James Thompson exposed to the public that Chicago Black Panther Party Chief of Security William O’Neal, who was Chicago’s Black Panther Party Chief of Security was an FBI informant. People had no idea who to trust and began dropping out, suspecting each other, falsely accusing and thus endangering.
They wanted divisiveness among ethnicities rather than cooperation of the public against their policies, which led to trying to create “race war.” They infiltrated and pushed the violence agenda in self-proclaimed White Supremicist groups in the name of investigating them.
Organizations
“Some suggest that law enforcement didn’t arrest Ex-Scientologist Charles Manson in order to let him live out his Helter Skelter (Apocalyptic Race War) plan to kill Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, and the others at Roman Polanski’s house. The killers left the sign of the Black Panthers to make it seem as if they had done it, predicting it would cause a rift in white society between liberals and conservatives, after which Manson’s group would prevail.
There was a connection with Scientology spin-off The Process Church, at one point two blocks from Charles Manson, at at 407 Cole Street, (accused of drug running, child porn, ritual sacrifice, etc.) taught that after a rift, Christ and Satan would team up for the final judgement. In his memoir, Will You Die For Me, Murderer Tex Watson claimed Orange Sunshine LSD, which was manufactured and supplied by The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, provided the necessary brainwashing tool.
The Process Church split into Intelligence-connected “The Children,” which Maury Terry says included Son of Sam serial killer, David Berkowitz. A major drug figure in “hippie mafia” The Brotherhood was CIA MK ULTRA mind control asset Ronald Stark, “ running the world’s largest LSD manufacturing and smuggling operation for the CIA.” And the funds went through CIA’s friend, Castle Bank.
MKULTRA
As part of Allen Dulles’ MK ULTRA Project, the CIA bought LSD from Sandoz and Eli Lilly, of Indianapolis, gave it away for free (some claim by the ton) to a generation calling for peace, thus diverting their hard-core activism and removing their credibility, making them more suggestible and easy to waylay into controlled cults and off-balance mystical ideas.
MK ULTRA promoted it through musicians like John Philips (son of a Marine Corp officer), and after subjecting them to experiments directly, figures like Ginsberg, The Grateful Dead, Ken Kesey, and Timothy Leary, designer of the CIA entrance personality test. When Walter Bowart asked if the CIA was involved with what he did, Leary said: “Of course they were. I would say that eighty percent of my movements, eighty percent of the decisions I made were suggested to me by CIA people. . . I like the CIA!”
It had very mixed and possibly ironic results. Unfortunately, when I’ve mentioned social engineering, bewailing the public’s naivite, some people have answered things like: “Yeah, people are afraid to take LSD to open their minds to see past the programing, because they’re scared.” Not necessarily.
War
The sacrifice of anti-war entertainment figures changed the hopeful and communal tone of the 1960s to despair and trauma. This often happened to sons of Intelligence agents. Consider Jim Morrison, son of Rear Admiral George Morrison, the man who started the Vietnam war. “On August 2nd and August 4 1964, North Vietnamese Torpedo boats allegedly attacked a U.S. destroyer in the Gulf Of Tonkin (a body of water off the Western coast of Vietnam).
“The Johnson administration used these attacks as the pretext to escalate the U.S.’s military operations against the North Vietnamese; these attacks, and the response, mark the “true” beginning of the War in Vietnam. The problem was . . .the August 2nd attack may have been greatly exaggerated, and most definitely was provoked by the U.S. forces in some fashion; and the August 4th attack, well, that probably didn’t happen at all.
“It all appears to have been a very precisely calculated operation to create an excuse for getting the U.S. deeply involved in Vietnam, and the whole thing is similar — very goddamn similar — to the Weapons of Mass Destruction kerfuffle/war crime/hoax that was used as the pretext for invading Iraq.” (Tim Sommer, “Jim Morrison and the Dreaded Rear Admiral.”)
Orchestrated life
Big events were used to influence a generation and turn the loving 60’s into trauma, such as the Altamont concert in 1969 when Intelligence-backed Hell’s Angels started the riot. This continued throughout history and is still common: they spread false concepts through hoaxes that they convince people of who know something is wrong with the mainstream media.
When seekers look to alternative media sources which appear to be giving them truth that counters those lies, new falsehoods lie in wait to ensnare the gullible, distracting, and discrediting. People who believe the alternative media, including spiritual writers and radio show hosts, then spread the CounterIntelligence disinformation and become unwitting assets.
Groups sincerely trying to uncover and expose government scams are infiltrated by people spouting improbable ideas, creating divisiveness and ineffectuality. People are waylaid into CIA cults.
This happened in droves in San Francisco when the Summer of Love was orchestrated by Intelligence, bringing young people to the Haight into the clutches of (Office of Naval Intelligence) L. Ron Hubbard’s Scientology spin-off — The Process Church, The Church of Satan, and The Army’s Psychological Warfare Specialist/US National Security Agency’s General Michael Aquino’s Temple of Set (formed after he left the Church of Satan).
“Rusty Nelson, has also said that he was told by King that Aquino was part of the Contra guns and cocaine trafficking operation run by George Bush and another notorious Lt. Col. named Oliver North.” (Operation Mockingbird). Innocent Flower Children were delivered to Anton LeVay’s Church of Satan, which boasted many famous members such as Manson clan killer, Susan Atkins.
A big part of looking into the social engineering is being able to cross people off the hero list. CIA’s Gordon Wasson published his article that instigated the use of psychedelic mushrooms in Life Magazine in 1957, glorifying them as spiritual, when in fact, they had apparently been used instead traditionally in tribal culture as suggestigens.
These things didn’t just happen in the US. In Canada, Dr. Ewen Cameron, as described in material such as the book, The Most Dangerous Game, as part of MKULTRA, working with mind control learned from NAZI scientists brought in with Project Paperclip at the end of WWII, not only adults, but over 50,000 Canadian children were experimented on, with the Catholic church as suppliers. Cameron used horrible methods such as psychic driving to brainwash people.
Drugs
While it may seem counter-intuitive, in the 1930s, the Tavistock Institute, the British social engineering organization, insinuated Aldous Huxley into California to pave the way for the MKULTRA drug proliferation that made money for the government drug-runners once people got addicted as well as the prison system that then arrested them, and turned functioning activist towards: Tune in, Turn on, and Drop out as Leary prescribed. Opium was lucrative, obtainable through invading countries that grew it, and smuggling it in corpses. The money from sales could then be used for Black Ops.
From “The Pope of Dope”: “While doing research for my book, Operation Mind Control (originally published in 1978), I’d come across a CIA document with Leary’s name on it. The CIA memo directed agents to contact Leary and company, who were then operating an organization called International Federation for Internal Freedom ( IFIF).
The memo asked its agents to discover if any agency personnel were taking acid with this group. The CIA wanted to determine what IFIF really knew about what was then billed as “the most powerful drug known to man,” LSD, a drug which the agency was experimenting with in an attempt to create mind controlled zombies.
“Another, earlier similar CIA document I found ordered agents to contact Aldous Huxley for the same reason. There were no follow-up documents to indicate whether the CIA had, or had not, made contact in either instance. Still, other documents indicated that Leary had received money channeled by the CIA through various government agencies. The files showed that, in all, there were eight government grants paid to Leary from 1953 to 1958, most of them paid through the National Institute of Mental Health, now known to have “fronted” for the CIA in the MKULTRA program. (Bowart)”
In 1971, led by Bill Davidon, who was a Haverford College physics professor, the Citizens’ Commission to Investigate the FBI took matters in their own hands, and burgled an office, exposing COINTELPRO operation to the public through the news.
Not surprisingly, the Pentagon staffer who leaked the information was punished by COINTELPRO, when his psychiatric records were stolen and used to try to discredit him. The thieves were later known as the Watergate perpetrators.
In 1976, the Church Committee investigated COINTELPRO, as much as that secretive organization allowed them to. The public revelations Hoover stop the program in name, but of course, we know how that goes.
As a well-known example, Lt. Col. Oliver North harassed protestors of our military strong-arming in Central America, was involved in anti-Constitutionalism, putting in place plans for martial law and FEMA camps for people against aggressive and underhanded US foreign policy. He employed Iran-Contra funds to target the Christic Institute, was was pulling back the veils of illusion from government misdeeds. As another example: FBI at Occupy Wall Street were told to “engage in sniper attacks against protesters . . . to kill the leadership.”
Media
The media is using very emotionally based stories to trick people into visceral engagement with ideas they perpetuate which are untrue. People who see beyond that need to stick together, encourage and support each other, and stay strong. Help each other see what are false flags, such as “lone shooter” patsies set up by the CIA and other organizations and countries to make a bad name for Muslims. That’s one of the most prevelant COINTELPRO-style still operating today: domestic false flag attacks which millions of people are painfully aware of.
People who do extensive forensics on the propaganda are labeled “conspiracy theorists,” which is a phrase created by COINTELPRO to stop people paying attention to anyone questioning their motives for war in Vietnam. While people have legitimate reasons to question the actions of members of any religion, false flags created intense fear of Muslim terrorism demonize countries the U.S. had earlier already decided it wanted to attack.
People should instead be afraid of what CNN and other news stations are doing by their involvement in the U.S. promoting the covert creation terrorism and blaming it on representatives of a religion of countries they want to destroy, so people will have less sympathy for those citizens and will support wars against them. For example, unleashing sarin gas in Syria and blaming Assad.
Agents use COINTELPRO-style surveillance to learn people’s vices and vulnerabilities, then set them up to engage in their favorite perversities while being filmed, such as with the Brownstone Operations and blackmail them into silence about false flags that demonize groups of people they want to attack, and also attack associated people such as journalists and judges who are exposing them. Helping others see beyond the deception allows everyone to use only facts instead of propaganda to create their opinions.
